2 Principles of Students’ Learning

  1. Learning is a change in the long-term memory
  2. To effect a change in the long-term memory, students must think hard about what you want them to learn.

The first of these principles is from Daniel Willingham and his excellent book ‘Why don’t students like school?’  The second is from Prof Rob Coe as quoted in the wonderful ‘What if everything you knew about education was wrong’ by David Didau.
